I was lying there prone on the street and I had no clue how I got there. All I could figure out was that the road wasnt such a great place to be sitting on.

I was being surrounded by a crowd of people of all shapes and sizes, menacing and yet faceless. They were advancing towards me, shaking their fists at me, obviously angry at something. Something I had done?? I wasnt so sure.

“How dare you?”, came a voice from the crowd, “Dont you have any shame?”

I kept quiet, I had no clue what I was supposed to be ashamed of. I checked to see if my fly was open. Yup, everything in place.

The scary crowd advanced towards me.

“What do you have to say about Malegaon?”, someone asked.

I gave him a blank stare, wondering why he was asking me that question, I had nothing to do with that !!

“Yes, and Godhra !!”, shouted another voice, “You killed 1000 people there”.

I tried to get up, but someone pushed me back down on the ground.

“And the Ayodhya kand?? More than 2000 people died in that”, screamed another angry voice in the background.

I frowned, still not replying. I didnt know what to say. I didnt even care whether a Ram Mandir was built or not.

“Dont forget the killings of the Sikhs in 1984”, shouted someone else.

“But I was in school then !!! Blame the Government for that !!!”, I retorted.

They crowd moved closer to me, “Your Government !!! Your people !! You are responsible. Dont you feel any shame?”

“Apologize immediately !! Apologize for the misdeeds of your people. Apologize for the crimes of your people. Apologize for everything that you have done.”

“Apologize !!! Apologize !!! Apologize !!”, the crowd started chanting, moving closer and closer to me in a rather threatening manner.

I woke up in sweat, my clothes drenched in perspiration. The alarm was buzzing, 7:00 am. I looked around and heaved a sigh of relief as I saw the familiar walls of my bedroom.

Damn !! For a moment there, I thought I had become a Muslim.
